Manitoba Hydro Net Billing For Solar Owners

Solar panels convert the suns rays into electricity. Your home or business uses the electricity produced by your solar system, and when more electricity is generated than you are using, it is sold to MB Hydro for $0.06546/kWh.

When your system is not producing enough to power your property, you buy it from MB Hydro at the full electricity rate.

If the value of the electricity sold to MB Hydro is greater than the value purchased, a credit is applied to your account. This credit is carried forward to the following bill and is applied to new charges.

Solar systems produce all of their power during daylight hours and a majority of this production comes during the spring, summer and fall. Solar owners usually end up with a small leftover electricity bill.

How quickly a solar system pays for itself depends on how the owner uses their electricity throughout the year. There is a quicker return on investment when electricity is used while the sun is shining.
